  • Stir Fried

Rambling on a wave of pickin', groovin' jamming and moovin',
Stir Fried cooks you up with heart driven soul.

Their new album "Last of the Blue Diamond Miners" (Falbo Records) is a fusion of song based writing and high energy jamming. The album features band member Buddy Cage (New Riders of the Purple Sage, Bob Dylan) on Pedal Steel, and includes a cavalcade of very special guests: Jo Jo Hermann (Widespread Panic) on piano, Vassar Clements (Old And In The Way, Bill Monroe) on fiddle, Tony Trischka (Bela Fleck's teacher) on banjo, Dr. John on piano and Fender Rhodes, Bernie Worrell (P-Funk, Talking Heads) on Hammond B-3 organ and clavinet, and Rich Hilton (Eric Clapton) on piano. Including the pioneers of bluegrass and rock to this eclectic band adds fuel to their fire. A collection of originals and Thomas Jefferson Kaye covers, "Last of the Blue Diamond Miners" is like a folktale passed down from the generations, focusing on the songs, adding imagination and paying homage to their heroes (many of whom are on this record).

Stir Fried is the brainchild of singer/songwriter/guitarist, Johnny Markowski, who is the son of producer and country/folk/rock artist, Thomas Jefferson Kaye. Thomas Jefferson Kaye had several records out in the 70's, including "First Grade" which was produced by Gary Katz (of Steely Dan fame), and featured Steely Dan members. Keeping his father's musical spirit in mind, Johnny's compositions are reminiscent of the song-based music that made rock classic.

There is nothing discreet about Stir Fried. With a minimum of seven musicians on stage, you'll be sure to hear a big sound. Stir Fried has been together for close to ten years. Their musical and lyrical maturity shines through, showcasing the awesome energy of the band. Stir Fried cranks it out live.

"Last of the Blue Diamond Miners" is the band's third full-length release. "Stir Fried" their debut album was released in 1996, and "Electrafried" which was recorded live at "Images" in Pearl River, NY was released in 1998. Each shows Stir Fried's ability to span genres. Relix Magazine comments on Stir Fried by saying, "It is obvious that this is a polished band with a kaleidoscopic musical view. Psychedelia, folk blues, and country merge with a world beat flair for extremely pleasing results." From blues/rock to bluegrass, from psychedelic to funk, Stir Fried is down right fun.
