It's Another Homecoming
The Missoulian, 11/21/97

Saturday, Missoula's favorite skinheads, the Skoidats, celebrate their homecoming with a 'Hat show of jazzy, punk-tinged ska and high energy. John Chapman, John Knight, Justin Dillavou, Gardner Dunn, Chuck Fuler and John Grenx have just returned from yet another tour - their third this year, by my count - promoting their CD, "The Times." If you go, expect to dance, and expect to brave a big jumping mass of enthusiastic partiers on the floor. Tank tops are advised.

The Sounding Board - The Skoidats' The Times
Indiana University Penn, 11/21/97

The Skoidats provide fast guitars with a tight three-piece horn selection. With all original music, The Skoidats mix jazz with punk. The song "Saturday Stinks" is nice, but once the chorus kicks in it's power chord heaven. Very nice.

The six piece band makes its debut on Moon Records from the town of Missoula, Montana. Opening for bands like Mephiskapheles, LGB and the Scofflaws, The Skoidats know what people want and produce it on this CD.

There's even a song called "Beer Beer Beer." Why is that? There is also a compilation called Skankaholics Unanimous. I guess that's what comes with the business.

Anyway, the influence of Oi! in the music is strong, but the sound is rooted in the instrumental old school tradition of bands like the Skatalites. That's the way to go. The selection "Whirlwind" gets you to dance. No lyrics mean you have to pay attention to the talent the band possesses. Only four songs have complete lyrics. The rest of the album is basically instrumental with the occasional "Hup, Hup, Hup."

Get this and listen to it.

The Skoidats' The Times
PTY Magazine, October/November 1997

Now this is my kinda band, a ska/punk one with traditional thrown in. These guys mix it up pretty good with some jazz and Oi! influenced in their songs. 14 toe tappin tracks that are very catchy. With only 6 members in the band, everything sounds so good. The horn section is very tight. My favorite tune on this CD is "Beer, Beer, Beer."

The Skoidats' The Times
Mercurial Zine, Issue # 4, 1997

When I first heard these guys, I thought Oh goody another ska-punk band, just what we need... But I had heard some good things about these guys, and gave them a chance... They're not good, they're great... They mix Ska with Jazz, Punk, Oi!, and other influences that make a great recipe for great music... It starts off with a very energetic punk song and ends with a great song "Beer, Beer, Beer." Get this quickly...
