Concert Review by Benjamin Williams Three Days of Moses Guest in Colorado I first caught Moses Guest on their Ski Fest Tour at the Lake Dillon Pub, in the mountains, about an hour and a half from Denver. The band put on a great show, but it was clear the Houston, Texas based group was still getting acclimated to the cold dry climate and high altitude of Colorado. The group went through their bag of songs, pulling out strong versions of "California" and a wonderful "How Does It Feel," to close the first set. Night two, brought fans a treat as the band headlined the Gothic Theater, in Denver. A quality light show, and one of the best house sound systems in the area, helped the band showcase their stuff. I was late to the show, but was pleasantly surprised to walk in as the band covered "Franklins Tower," giving it just a twist of that Texas influence. The Druids Arms Pub, in Louisville, Colorado, and my third night of Moses Guest proved to be worth the wait. The crowd had gathered early, as Colorados own Electric Side Dish took the stage to open the show with an hour of originals showcasing their own fantastic repertoire. Once ESD wrapped up, it was clear the troops were ready for more as the two bands did a quick switch of their equipment on the small stage. Grahm Guest pulled an empty keg from the back to act as a makeshift table for drinks, a scene very fitting for this small pub. The band then fired the show up and headed into the strongest set of any that I had heard. The MG foursome opened with a Jam into "Americana Swang," followed by "Stealin" and then a powerful "Best Side Up." It was clear the band was now used to the Colorado altitude and ready to give it all they had. And so they did, each member tight with the others as they rolled through great versions of "Take Me," "I Dont Love You" and many others. I walked away satisfied that night, knowing I had experienced not only some great music, but that I walked away from one of those magic nights where everyone in the band was on. Moses Guest will be continuing their Ski Fest Tour through January 26th, with stops in Utah, and three days at Grand Targhee Ski Resort in Alta Wyoming. Electric Side Dish has just finished a new four-song ep titled Travelin and will be touring regionally this spring. |
