THE MCCLOSKEY BROTHERS BAND
Review by Laura Turner Lynch

The McCloskey Brothers Band self titled debut CD is out and from the opening chords of 'Together Home' with its fast furious tempo to the closing chords of 'Peace with God' their listeners are in for a treat. This upbeat spirit filled CD is rock/blue grass in the highest order. This Colorado based group is about love of life, nature and music, as expressed in this wonderful 15-track collection. Todd and David McCloskey write powerful, reflective lyrics that are poetic and very visual. Both McCloskey brothers are accomplished musicians and share the stage with the talents of Dan Menchey on drums and Steven Roseboom on bass. The guitars and banjos are high flying throughout and the mandolin adds beauty and depth to many of the songs. Percussion and bass is subtle but solid on each track. The band has a wide range of influences, which include Prince, Cat Stevens and Robert Plant. Thus, their music is diverse and fresh. The McCloskey Brothers Band is "new grass" as it blends solid rock with the traditional bluegrass sound. The CD has many well-expressed moods starting with the upbeat opening track to the dreamlike quality of 'Dream' and the soulful 'Rocked.' The McCloskey Brothers Band is a great first album and clearly demonstrates why these musicians are building a solid following in their hometown region and beyond.
