BEST LOCAL BAND!
from Denver City Search
by Dave Kirby
The Verdict
Jamgrass at its ever-lovin' Boulder-based best.
The Skinny
Seems like 300 years ago when Big Head Todd went off to the Great Jam Band Neverending Tour and the buzz around town was about who was likeliest to inherit the crown of Boulder's Biggest Band. Leftover Salmon, formed from the Lefthand String Band and the Salmonheads back when Bush Sr. was still popular, was the area's best kept secret and, to some, already a frightening musical force. Double guitar threats Vince Herman and Drew Emmitt, along with banjoist from the gods Mark Vann, crafted a fast and jam-intensive grand nephew to bluegrass that seemed to drop in nicely with the prevailing H.O.R.D.E. vibe, and frankly, provided a breath of fresh air from the Blues Traveller/Phish/Widespread cartel that held the franchise for so long. LS was smart: They publicly said they will play less in Boulder. The they recorded a terrific double album at the Fox. Now they come back just often enough to appear as triumphant hometown warriors. They're huge and deserve to be.
The Crowd
Hippies, frat boys and Phish-heads looking to pass the time between tours.
