"If he were in the 60's, by now he'd be hailed as one of the greatest singer-guitarists, along with Clapton and Hendrix."
Hard rockin' and deeply groovin', Johnny Young is raging across the US. Supporting their second CD, "Drone" This three piece New York City based dynamo is garnering radio support and new fans at an unstoppable rate.
Lead singer and guitarist Johnny Young is the seventh son from a musical family of ten. He began his music career at age 8, when he was thrown out of piano lessons for improvising on "Go Tell Aunt Rhodie", by the evil Dr. Barnett of Rumania who told Johnny's parents about his insubordination and refusal to obey his every command.
Blind since age seventeen, Johnny cut his teeth on a world tour with former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor as the singer and keyboardist in The Mick Taylor band. Since then, he has bruised his legs and his forehead on numerous stages across the North American continent and around the world, performing, recording and producing various projects from New York to Tokyo. Johnny's production credits include: Elliot Randall (Steeley Dan), Whodini, Norma Jean Wright (Chic), Karl Wilcox (Diamondhead), Kool Moe Dee, Steve Thornton (Miles Davis). He also co-produced with Sydney Mills from Steel Pulse, Liggett and Barbosa from Shannon, and Allan Schwartzberg, the drummer for Peter Gabriel, Roger Daltry, and Brian Ferry.
Johnny's own projects have included charting on CMJ with "Dark Black Past" and, the first single from Drone, "Rain" was a Southern regional break out on commercial radio. Johnny Young is now promoting their new single "If I," which will be hitting the airwaves in a few weeks.
A diverse musical talent and multi-instrumentalist Johnny's composing won him an Emmy award in 1996, for the soap opera "Guiding Light." Soon after, he found his true calling by picking up on SG plugged into a Marshall amp cranked up, of course.
Today, Johnny works day and night creating music in his studio laboratory located above a neighborhood bar in Brooklyn. A modern day 'frenzied Mozart' who's forever working on something: showcasing the bands newest materials around town (including memorable shows at CMJ 2000 & 2001), and always tending his bubbling brew, this 'wizard in the mill' has taken his latest concoction, entitled Drone, on the road and will be embarking on the band's 4th national tour to SXSW in March 2001.
Don't be the last to know. Take a listen see why JohnnyYoung is one of a few truly emerging bands in the U.S.

Jairo Ruiz - Bass
From the slums of Park Slope, Brooklyn comes the newest member to join Johnny Young, Jairo Ruiz. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Jairo brings to the band a fierce combination of skill, melody and in-your-face-bass to an already rip-roaring sound. Jairo has performed with numerous
bands and musicians, and has performed all over New York City. His ambition, drive and thirst for a kick-ass show only intensifies the band's sound and energy. Be prepared for a whole new Johnny Young now that fire has been added to the flames.
Lex Dunbar - Drums
"Banging on those f__king pots", (as his mom would say), since age 3, 'Sexy Lexy' quickly became a big fish somewhere between Albany and Rochester. Like his idol, little Ricky Ricardo, Lex soon became a child prodigy, and although he never landed that spin-off t.v. series he dreamed of as a kid, he did go on to tour the globe, (catching as many football games as he possibly could), with various well known artists such as Avalon, Thirst, and the international chart topping Lisa-Lisa among many others. A straight up kinda guy with an eye for talent and a deep desire for the factory fresh smell of a new tour bus. Lex's incredible drumming skills give Johnny Young a powerful dose of rip-raging 'in your face' percussive medicine. Not a prescription for the weak of heart, but definitely what the doctor ordered!
