Coby Brown Group - Homesick
ThisIsModern.com

This New York City based jazz-rock band has what it takes to be one of the leading bands in the modern rock revolution. Coby Brown Group has put together a debut album that is far better than some veteran bands' releases. These four guys put together eight tracks that have a unique jazzy sounding quality. The instrumentation on each song lends itself well to the ear by creating a masterpiece of rhythm and harmony. Each song has meaning and lead singer Coby Brown has proven that he can ride with the big dogs in the area of lyric writing. Not since the release of "Under The Table And Dreaming," Dave Matthews Band's first major label release, have I heard such beautifully crafted, meaningful lyrics combined with unique instrumentals and magnificent jams. "Homesick" is not on a major label, but rest assured that Coby Brown Group can expect to have record executives knocking at their door. The leading track called "The Distance" is a hard hitting, jazzlike tune that uses driving piano and guitars to enhance the unique vocal stylings of Coby Brown. The second track and first single, "Please," can be described as your classic lyric-driven modern rock song. It's slow and fast at times, and the lyrics are fun and catchy. One of the slower songs on the disc is "Dangeous." It's a mellow, yet jumpy song that is simple and meaningful with simple music and simple lyrics. The last song on the disc has the best use of an acoustic guitar. It's a darker song that uses the acoustic guitar and masterful lyrics to bring you into the same mood you might feel if it actually was October 31st. The acoustic guitar riff at the beginning of the song is even used on the band's website during their Flash intro. Every song on the album is a great song. There is not one better than another and you will find yourself getting lost within the album. Three of the songs were actually recorded for the upcoming independent film "Ropewalk." Once you hit play before track one you I guarantee that you will not be stopping the disc until after track eight. However, I must warn you, after the music stops let the CD keep playing for more goodies from Coby Brown Group. Don't forget start over at track one after you're done though. I'm sure you'll want to listen to the disc again... and again.. and again.
