SOUTHERN FLAVORED R&B RETRO ROCK
By infusing their Southern roots with a dose of gospel, velvety 5 part
vocal harmonies, and R&B, Cadillac Voodoo Choir (CVC) has created a sound
that is recognizable, yet distinctly all their own.
Hailing From Atlanta GA and Austin TX this band puts on a masterful live
show that commands the full attention of their listeners. Anyone who goes
to see this band live will find themselves fixated on each band member's
individual talent, energy, and the fact that they are a choir in the true
sense of the word. All five band member's vocals contribute to form the
sound that is CVC.
What does CVC aim to get across to it's audiences? "A show. We want
people to leave thinking - Wow, I really got my money's worth." Before
goth, grunge and alternative made it cool to look at the floor and snarl,
there was a time when the showmanship and the performance were just as
important as the songs and lyrics. CVC succeeds at capturing the essence
that is true Rock and Roll. CVC's recent performance at this year's SXSW
brought Austin's Matchbox Records to their door. They were signed a few
weeks after the conference and they hit the studio to record their first
full length album Boomtown Flood, due out October 22, 1998.
It's hard to believe as you are barraged with a daily onslaught of music on
TV, radio, and just about everywhere you go - from any restaurant, to the
Gap to your local supermarket - that there exists a band that can survive
on showmanship , dedication and word of mouth alone. Until this release,
CVC has not had their CD in any stores, have not been played on the radio,
and have only had one article written about them in a major newspaper
(please read it, it's attached)... but yet this band exists, and has been
building momentum for four years as they play 200+ shows annually from
coast to coast. Their dedicated fans come out to see them in every city.
Come hop on the CVC bandwagon - order a beer, hit the dance floor and
remember what a band that touches you from the inside out feels like to
watch... You'll be glad you did.
Chad Drummond (lead singer, guitar) made his debut performance with CVC on
his 18th birthday. Now it's 4 years and 600+ shows later and he is a
commanding and sprightly force on stage. His lanky frame and full lips may
remind you of Mick Jagger back in '67 or Steven Tyler... but his attitude
is 100% Chad. Chad grew up in live music clubs - his father owned the
legendary Pinocchio's Club in Atlanta where Lynrd Skynrd was the house band
before they were signed. The transition from high school student to front
man seemed natural and easy.
Taxi Haskell (drums, vocals) has led this band through many incarnations
before happily settling on their current line-up. He and Ginger have been
playing together in assorted bands for nine years. Taxi's biting humor and
his wild style comes out when he sits behind his drum kit and
simultaneously and energetically pounds away while he sings, and may even
take a friendly jab or two at an audience member.
Ginger Griffenhagen (bass, vocals) the other founding member of CVC, Ginger
was raised all over the United States as a military brat. while on the
road (which is most of the time) he acts as not only the bass player but
also as the de facto tour manager, stage hand and band alarm clock.
Danny Smith (keys, trombone, harmonica, percussion, vocals) Danny is the
musical linchpin of The CVC. He can play any instrument you put in front
of him. When money is tight on the road, this energetic performer has been
known to join up with Taxi in a unique and hilarious lounge act called The
Ass-kickin' machine, one highlight includes singing Hanson's mmmbop until
every person in the audience gives them each a dollar, but that's another
story...
Patrick Donahue (guitar, vocals) is the most recent inductee of The CVC.
After going through 4 guitarists in four years, The CVC was thrilled when
they met up with Patrick. He is the only member of the band who lives
outside of Atlanta (he calls Austin TX home). Patrick is a fiercely
dedicated and talented guitarist who, even while on the road, practices
every single day.
